Moving from wordpress.com hosted blog to self-hosted Wordpress  Print this Article

If you are moving your existing wordpress.com hosted blog into your own hosting environment, moving your existing posts is simple.

  1. Login to your wordpress.com hosted blog and go to Tools -> Export and download the generated XML file to your computer.
  2. Login to your new Wordpress blog and go to Tools -> Import -> Wordpress. After you run the import, you can also import your media using the Download and Import file attachments.


If your exported XML file is larger than the 2mb default allowed import size, here are some settings to help you:
